    Schubertiade is a festival in Austria dedicated to celebrating the music of Franz Schubert. It takes place every year, to an average of 35000 visitors in some beautiful venues.

    Even though Schubert only lived to the age of 31, he managed to write over 600 secular vocal works, and a huge body of orchestral and chamber music. This festival celebrates his life with performances of his music, and masterclasses by renowned artists. in the 2024 festival, there were around 71 events held across a two week period. 

    In this concert, the Vienna-based Minetti Quartett perform one of Schubert's string quartets, and then after interval are joined by the German violist Nils Mönkemeyer for a string quintet by Dvorak.

    The String Quartet in D is one of Schubert's last works - written in just ten days at the same time Beethoven was writing his final string quartet. Schubert's, however, wasn't published until after his death. It has been  described as anticipating the symphonies of Bruckner, due to its size and complexity.
