For Oban-born Sally Howitt (Trial and Retribution, Bad Boys, EastEnders, Rab C Nesbitt), it's the kind of part she's always wanted to take on.
"I've played funny and hard-nosed characters before," says the 38 year old actress, "but never a matriarch. It's a really different experience for me because Scarlett's a mum of three but I don't have any children in real life."
