    Melvin Shane Sparks (born June 25, 1969) is an American hip hopchoreographer best known for his work as a choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance and judge on America's Best Dance Crew.

    Sparks was born on June 25, 1969, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the youngest of three children born to Melvin and Wanda Sparks, both police officers. Sparks spent some time in the hospital after his birth due to scoliosis.

    Sparks became interested in dance at the age of 11 when he started performing in talent shows. His interest in teaching became apparent when he started offering dance lessons from his own backyard. Dance became extremely important to Sparks after his sister's boyfriend was murdered, as it became a way for him to escape and feel safe.

    In 1993, Sparks moved to Los Angeles. Three months after his move, he was offered a chance to substitute a hip-hop class at the Millennium Dance Complex, formerly known as Moro Landis, located in the North Hollywood Arts District

    Shane Nebl was a 2X Wisconsin HS State Placer/1X Finalist who competed for Ripon HS before transferring to Winnebago Lutheran Academy. He placed 3rd as a Junior at the 1993 Wisconsin HS State Tournament at Division 1, 103 lbs and then was runner-up at that same weight as a Senior in 1994. Shane came in to HS as an undersized Freshman, weighing between 70-80 lbs tops, but the adversity he endured as an underclassman would later pay off, for he was a buzz-saw as an upperclassman 103 lber his final 2 seasons. He had a combined record of close to 70 wins and only 4 losses in those final two years. He lost in the finals his Senior year 13-11 in OT. This was controversial, for out of the 11 points his opponent (Rudy Ruiz) scored in regulation, 4 of them were stalling points… Had these points not been factored into the outcome, Shane would have won his finals match by the score of 11-7. Shane was ranked 1st by Crossface Magazine as a Senior. He won several big tournaments.
